When Doors Close: Praying for the Women of Afghanistan

Even when classrooms are silent, courage is not.

In Afghanistan today, millions of girls and women live behind closed doors—doors that once opened to classrooms, dreams, and futures full of possibility. It’s been four years since those doors to secondary education were locked, and the ache runs deep. Over two million girls are now denied the chance to continue learning.

A New Layer of Isolation

Recently, a new layer of silence fell. The Taliban-controlled government cut off internet and phone access across large parts of the country. For many girls and women, that digital connection was a fragile but vital lifeline—to online education, remote work, or even simple encouragement from friends.

The blackout didn’t just end screen time; it severed hope lines. Without access to learning, income, and communication, the isolation feels deeper than ever. Opportunity and connection have grown smaller, even as courage and faith grow stronger.

Still, Hope Whispers

Even in the quiet, courage continues to speak. Mothers are secretly teaching daughters at home. Small groups of women gather to learn in secret. Others pray together, believing that one day the doors will open again.

And through it all, God has not stopped moving. His Spirit is present—in whispered prayers, in hidden classrooms, and in hearts that refuse to stop believing.

At Say Hello, we believe every woman is created in God’s image—worthy of dignity, love, and freedom. When we pray, we join His heart for the women of Afghanistan and for Muslim women everywhere who long to be seen, valued, and known.

🌿 How We Can Pray

• For open doors — that education and opportunity will be restored for girls and women.
• For safety and courage — for those teaching or learning in secret, especially now that digital communication has been cut off.
• For hope to rise — that Christ’s light will reach places that feel forgotten, and that connection (digital and relational) will be restored.
• For the global Church — to stay compassionate, prayerful, and present, standing alongside those whose voices have been silenced.

💗 A Prayer

Lord, our hearts ache for the women of Afghanistan.
Strengthen them with Your peace and courage.
Let knowledge, opportunity, and hope bloom again.
As digital windows close, let Your light still reach through.
Remind each woman and girl that she is deeply loved, never unseen by You.
Amen.
